Job Overview

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, of the Rene Cazenave Apartments Team, the Clinical Social Worker I/II (CSW I/II) works with formerly homeless individuals with mentally illness, chronic physical health issues, and/or substance abusing clients to prevent homelessness and link to appropriate outpatient services. The CSW I/II will carry a caseload of residents from RCA and provide individual treatment including; case management services, psychotherapy, crisis intervention and 5150 assessments, substance abuse treatment, and psycho education; intake, assessment, service planning and consultation.

The CSW I/II will coordinate closely with property management staff from Community Housing Partnership and Rene Cazenave Apartments Citywide Team members to develop successful treatment strategies; advocacy and coordination with other agencies, families and clients; track client contacts in Avatar Billing System, assessments, referrals and linkage; coordinate closely with hospitals and clinic medical providers as well as facilitating groups and community events. The candidate will also perform other duties as assigned.

The job will involve the ability to lift 50 lbs. and climb stairs.

The San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) is dedicated to providing services that integrate medical, psychiatric, and addiction treatment. SFGH is the largest provider of acute psychiatric care and the only San Francisco provider of psychiatric emergency care.

Required Qualifications

  • CSW I: Master’s degree in social work, psychology or related field from an accredited university and registered with the Board of Behavioral Science as An Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW) or Intern Marriage Family Therapist (IMFT)
  • CSW II: In addition to above, possession of the requirements necessary for application for licensure as determined by the California Board of Behavioral Science
  • Experience working with severely mentally ill adults, the homeless and dual diagnosed populations
  • One year of experience doing community based case management and the ability to do outreach.
  • Case Management experience
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with others. Ability to work in a high stress, high volume area and work well under pressure and with deadlines. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately, and be detailed oriented. Able to efficiently prepare written summaries of activities, set priorities and complete reports within required timeframes. Knowledge of medical and/or psychiatric terminology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work as a team member in a culturally diverse setting
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability
  • A preliminary job offer and assignment may be extended pending successful background clearance.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and sensitivity toward mental health clients
  • Ability to work with clients and program staff from diverse cultural and social class backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spanish language fluency
  • Prior related UC experience
